Willy and the Ice Cream Truck

Those of you who follow my blog are aware that Willy is my five year old gray, silver, and black male tabby cat. I've raised him since he was six weeks old so he has never known another home but mine, and he has never been outside.

Monday afternoon the ice cream truck came down my street and stopped right in front of the house as some kids up the street came running for ice cream.

Willy has never heard the ice cream truck and this thing was loud. Bells were clanging and since it stopped in front of my house and all the windows were open, it was almost deafening.

Willy was napping with the other cats when this occurred, and all of a sudden he came flying off the back of the sofa where he had been sleeping. His ears were back, his eyes were huge and his tail was as bushy as his body. His fur was standing up on his back! He was terrified!

He stood by the door for a moment and then with all the courage he could muster.....he growled! I laughed out loud. He was certain a simple hiss would not do in this situation, that something more serious was called for, so he growled..like a dog! That growl seemed to calm him down and gave him a false sense of bravado. He finally calmed down, and his fur settled down and his tail returned to its normal size. He jumped back up on the back of the sofa to resume his nap.

Willy had conquered the ice cream truck and he could once again claim victory over the outside world he doesn't know anything about.

I still smile when I think about it.......
